A scarey thing, venting, and a recipe

First, the scarey thing.... I was so scared today, daddy is working days this week, so mommy had the dog walker come during the day (since they are both at work). My usual walker did not come, AND the person who came did not come till 3:30 (they were supposed to come about 12:30-1:00). He didn't know how to put on my harnass and took me out by wrapping the leash around my neck and I didn't have my tags incase I ran away because I was sooooo scared. I just wanted to go home, luckily mommy and daddy came home at the same time the man was bringing me back in the house. I knew from mommy's face she was mad. At first I thought she was mad at me, but she gave me lots of hugs and kisses. Daddy carried me right in and we sent an e-mail to the owner. Daddy thinks maybe because this person is new he didn't have mommy's number to call and say he would be late, so mommy could call a neighbor to let me out. When mommy gets mad she really gets mad, more mad than when I pee on the floor or chew a pillow, I mean really mad. She says its because she loves me very much and wants to protect me from all the bad things in the world. Daddy gave me lots of hugs and kisses. I feel much safer now that they are home.

Now the venting..... My mommy has been trying to adopt a brother or sister for me. But nothing has worked out. She is so sad, she wants to adopt a Frenchie or Boston (so we will have similar breathing and exercise issues??? I don't know what she is talking about.) Anyway nothing has worked out. I would love a brother or sister too, so we can play together all the time, give each other kisses, destroy boxes and socks together, and keep eachother company when mommy and daddy go to work. Daddy says when its meant to be it will happen, but mommy and I want a sibling NOW! So mommy will keep trying to adopt another furry child, and hopefully I won't be an only child to much longer.

(this was written up yesterday, but I had to add the scary and venting part)
Now the Recipe.....
My mommy has been making my food at home. She did a lot of research and was given a recipe that included all the nutrients that I need. I'll let my mommy explain the recipe.

Hi Balboa's mommy here. This is the recipe I make for Balboa. Since eating this food (about three weeks now) there have been no side effects, the stinkiness of his gas has significantly decreased.

I also have stopped buying any store bought treats. For snacks or rewards Balboa gets carrots, apples, pears, bananas, cheese, peanut butter, strawberries, and bluberries. He loves eating healthy and I feel better about what I am feeding him.

To keep his teeth and gums healthy, I do feed him Old mother Hubbard mixed puppy biscuits.

Please check with your vet before trying this recipe. I already spoke to Balboa's vet.

5 lbs ground beef or mixed with ground turkey (raw)
1 1/2 lbs carrots (raw)
5-6 potatoes (not the big baking potatoes!)
1 1/2 cups brown rice (already cooked)
1/2 cup lentils or beans (canned)
1 1/2 cups fat free plain yogurt
2 cup natural applesauce
3 eggs
15 oz canned pumpkin

Put eggs, carrots, potatoes, beans, and pumpkin in blender. Mix blended ingredients with beef, rice, yogurt, and applesauce. I cook the food in two pans 350 degrees for about 1/2 hour- check to make sure meat is cooked.

***Once cooked I drain the mixture in a collander and also pat the grease off the food.***

Yummy yum, Balboa. That sounds delicious! How long does it last for? My mommy might start making some!

Is your mommy planning on rescuing another dog? If so, that's awesome! That's what my mommy's going to do after we move and are all settled into our new home. How about looking for a pug? We have breathing issues, too, and we're super friendly and cuddly! In fact, I'd let your mommy adopt me! Then we'd get to play all day! Hahaha...just kidding. I don't want to break my mom's heart :)

Mommy forgot to add how long it lasts. She scoops out the right amount for each meal (she gives me the food twice a day) and freezes it in small baggies. She just heats it up before serving it to me. I love my mommy, hee hee.

Have you looked at petfinder or contacted rescues. My mom found me on and I am the best so it's a good choice.

Poor little one, so scary about the dog walker. I guess you just never know! I'm glad your mom arrived just in time to see what was happening.

That recipe looks like something I would eat...thank you so much for sharing. With all this food recall, we are best with hooman food I think and I think a lot of people will reconsider what they feed us off the shelves!

As for what Ian says, it's true, we found my 1/2 brother on and what a networking system they had going on. Mom cried going through all the pictures so it's not easy to do but so many need good homes so I hope your mom and dad will consider this option.

Big Hugs from Billy Boo:)

Mommy called and e-mailed a few rescues off petfinder, but either it didn't work out or no one called her back. But we will keep trying, there is the perfect brother or sister out there for me. I know it!

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Balboa, I can send our Pomeranian house guest over to bite that dog walker. Too bad you don't live in Montreal. Our dog walker is the best ... and totally reliable.

Wow, thanks for the recipes and the links. Snickers loves the homemade treats I made. When I give one to her, she runs and hides so nobody else can get it. I can't wait to try your recipe. How much do you feed? Snickers only weighs 15 pounds.

Hi Balboa

What a nasty little man. I sure hope your Daddy gave him a piece of his mind scaring you like that.

You know Balboa, you really need to think carefully about encouraging your Mum to get you a sibling. I recently got a brother and it is really quite exhausting. I keep having to follow him around to make sure he doesn't mess with my stuff. Not only that he keeps my Mum so busy that she is "neglecting" me. Pout! Sulk!

Hey Balboa,
Thanks for visiting my blog again. To answer your question, I have a cyst on my leg. Doesn't hurt, just real itchy. The doctor said we don't need to remove it because it will go away by itself. Until it does, I need to wear the owie bracelet anytime I go to the park.

Hey, Balboa! Don't get too discouraged about adopting a rescue--a family just adopted their Frenchie from FBRN after a whole year of applying for dogs! They are very happy with their new frog, and they say it was just meant to be.
Sometimes it's just a matter of time, and sometimes it's a matter of finding the absolutely best fit. Hang in there, Balboa, your perfect brother or sister is out there somewhere.

PS We're so glad the nutty dog-walker got a talking-to. What kind of dog-walker doesn't know about a harness?

Poor Balboa! Good thing you're a brave boy. Our Mommy would have had steam coming out of her ears. Don't mess with her puppies!

Your new food looks yummy! Our Mom cooks for us too. And she gives us raw bones to keep our teeth sparkling white! Mom's are so great!

Oh, I know exactly what your mom is talking about, in regards to the breathing "issues"... Mean Sister Fig snorts like a hog all the time. And she wakes me up at night with her snoring. And she wonders why we call her PIG.... I'm sure you're much to cute and sweet to do anything like that, though. :-)
